Nitrous Oxide (in Conjunction with Dental Treatment)
Nitrous oxide (also known as “laughing gas”) is a safe, inhalable gas that is known for its anesthetic and pain reducing properties. For most patients, nitrous oxide helps them relax throughout the dental procedures and dental cleanings. The amount of nitrous oxide is regulated during the appointment and that gas is inhaled through a nose mask. When using nitrous oxide, you will still be able to hear and respond to people in the room. You may feel light-headed or have a slight tingling in your arms and legs. Some people have said their arms and legs feel heavy when using nitrous oxide. Ultimately, laughing gas can be used so that you feel calm and comfortable. Once the nitrous oxide is turned off, the effects begin to wear off quickly and will be completely gone by the time you stand up out of your chair. Ask Dr. Street if using nitrous oxide would be beneficial for you during dental procedures.
